Then taking chess as the prime example, I address the central questions, highlighting some of the differences in opinion among different commentators.
Thus, given (1) and (2) (as statements of a falsely held view about computers), a mechanism equipped with the rule of modus ponens would produce (3): (1) All logic machines are formal systems. (2) Computers are logic machines. (3) Computers are formal systems. And this follows, according to this rule, independently of what the specific terms such as logic machine, computer, or formal system mean in these sentences.
