Equal human entitlement is inclusive and positive. It is the right of everyone to a fair share of social products, to education, skills training and employment opportunities. It is the right of all inhabitants to a voice and equal vote in their communities’ economic decisions. Equal human entitlement does not mean that workers will own enterprises. Workers’ ownership under capitalism can protect jobs and provide workers with experience in the democratic direction of social labour, but it remains a form of private competitive ownership that pushes worker-owners to focus on narrow immediate interests.
As the travail now associated with labour ends, people will be motivated to work smarter and more productively. Even now, despite the alienation of capitalist entitlement and master-servant relations, doing work well, gaining and holding the respect of peers and contributing to the well being of communities are enduring sources of personal satisfaction. Workers employed in the provision of public services will also democratically direct their labour time. Under capitalism, authority in public employment is rigidly hierarchical, treated as if it were proprietorial.
Numerous children are more mouths to feed, but for the disentitled, they can be hope. For religious elites, numerous children mean larger flocks. For capitalists, numerous children mean more cheap expendable labour. Capitalist dispossession and privatizations have alienated people from the natural world, but returning to past systems of minority entitlement is neither practical nor a solution. Hereditary aristocracies, theocracies, meritocracies and hegemonic parties as well as capitalists act in their narrow interests.
